A portion of the Lloyd Expressway was shut down for 4 hours Tuesday afternoon after a construction crew hit a gas line.
Crews from the Evansville Fire Department and CenterPoint Energy all responded to the scene.
Neighborhoods within a 6-block radius were evacuated or told to shelter in place.
Virginia Street, Lincoln Avenue, Burkhardt, and I-69 were blocked to traffic.
The gas leak caused several businesses to close for the day.
