Taylor Walls smacked his first two homers of the season and drove in three runs and the Tampa Bay Rays tied a team record with six home runs while rolling to a 12-4 victory over the Athletics on Tuesday night in West Sacramento, Calif.
Junior Caminero, Yandy Diaz, Victor Mesa Jr. and Carson Williams all added blasts as the Rays improved to 8-0 on their nine-game road trip. Nick Martinez (12-3) gave up four runs and eight hits while tossing his first career nine-inning complete game.
Lawrence Butler hit a two-run homer in the fourth for the A’s, and Carlos Cortes hit a two-run double in the ninth. Mason Barnett (1-3) permitted six runs (five earned) on five hits in four innings.
The Athletics’ Jacob Wilson initially saw his record 112-game streak without an error for a shortstop end, but the eighth-inning play was later ruled a fielder’s choice.
Reds 5, White Sox 4 (10 innings)
Elly De La Cruz delivered the game-winning RBI in the top of the 10th inning and Cincinnati erased a four-run deficit in a victory at Chicago.
Reds reliever Brock Burke (5-4) was perfect in the ninth to earn the win, snapping his team’s three-game losing streak. Emilio Pagan tossed a 1-2-3 10th inning for his 14th save. Cincinnati starter Nick Lodolo allowed four runs on five hits in four innings in his first game back after missing a month due to a finger blister.
Sean Burke was stellar through seven innings for the White Sox, who had won their previous two games. He struck out eight while holding Cincinnati to a run on three hits and no walks.
Rockies 3, Diamondbacks 2
Kyle Karros hit a game-tying homer before leaving with an injury, Tomoyuki Sugano pitched six strong innings, and Colorado beat Arizona in Phoenix to even the teams’ three-game series.
Karros exited after a sixth-inning collision in the field with teammate Ezequiel Tovar. Mickey Moniak’s seventh-inning sacrifice fly put the Rockies on top for good. Sugano (12-5) permitted two runs on six hits, and Jordan Romano handled the ninth inning for his 11th save.
Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte homered in the first inning for the Diamondbacks. Mitch Bratt threw six innings of two-run ball before Kevin Ginkel (5-4) absorbed the loss.
Tigers 6, Guardians 4
Kevin McGonigle drove in three runs and host Detroit won for the eighth time in 10 games, topping Cleveland.
McGonigle had a two-run double and an RBI single, while Javier Baez scored two runs for the Tigers. Reliever Jacob Waguespack (1-1) threw two scoreless innings, and Kenley Jansen got his 14th save despite yielding a run in the ninth.
Chase DeLauter had three hits, including a solo homer, for the Guardians. Jo Adell drove in two runs, hitting his first homer since he was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels at the trade deadline.
Blue Jays 5, Red Sox 3
Rookie Brett Bateman had two RBIs on two hits as Toronto defeated visiting Boston.
Charles McAdoo, Ernie Clement and Myles Straw added RBIs for the Blue Jays, who have won the opening two contests of a four-game series. Chase Lee (1-0) tossed 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Spencer Miles pitched around a double in the ninth to earn his first career save.
Wilyer Abreu and Ceddanne Rafaela hit solo homers for the Red Sox, who have lost four straight following a 27-3 run. Patrick Sandoval (1-1) permitted eight hits and four runs (two earned) in six innings.
Yankees 4, Mariners 1
Ryan McMahon and Trent Grisham each hit a two-run single in the seventh inning by capitalizing on Seattle’s defensive positioning as host New York earned a victory.
The base hits by McMahon and Grisham gave the Yankees their 30th comeback win. Ryan Weathers allowed one run on two hits in 5 2/3 innings before Tim Hill (4-2) won in relief. David Bednar tossed a scoreless ninth inning for his 27th save.
Randy Arozarena homered for the Mariners, who dropped their fifth straight game. Seattle’s Bryan Woo survived a 33-pitch opening inning and held the Yankees to three hits in five scoreless innings. Michael Rucker yielded four runs in one-third of an inning.
Braves 4, Mets 0
Martin Perez threw six scoreless innings while Ozzie Albies and Matt Olson homered to help Atlanta defeat visiting New York, leveling the three-game series.
Perez (8-6) gave up four hits and three walks, struck out two and extended his streak of scoreless innings to 18 dating back to July 27. Didier Fuentes, Dylan Lee and Raisel Iglesias each followed with one perfect inning.
Mets starter Nolan McLean (8-8) allowed just one run and one hit over six innings. Carson Benge had half of New York’s four hits.
Giants 4, Astros 1
Carson Whisenhunt overcame a shaky start to allow just one run in 5 2/3 innings, Bryce Eldridge homered and San Francisco evened its three-game series against visiting Houston.
Drew Cavanaugh, Willy Adames and Osleivis Basabe had two hits apiece for the Giants. Whisenhunt (3-3) gave up four hits and three walks.
Astros starter Hunter Brown (3-2) completed five innings, giving up three runs and five hits. Jose Altuve exited shortly after getting hit in the left foot by a first-inning pitch. Preliminary scans were negative, according to manager Joe Espada, who added that Altuve would go for more testing on Wednesday.
Marlins 2, Pirates 0
Eury Perez pitched seven scoreless innings, winning a battle between a pair of elite young right-handers as host Miami defeated Pittsburgh. Miami’s offense was led by Esteury Ruiz, who hit a solo homer.
Perez (6-9) struck out seven batters and did not allow a runner past first base. He allowed just three hits and two walks.
Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes (9-11) allowed five hits, one walk and two runs, one earned, in five innings. Skenes struck out four but was removed after just 65 pitches. His fastball, which led all qualified starters last year with an average velocity of 98.1 mph, had a norm of just 95.7 on Tuesday.
Cardinals 2, Phillies 0
Masyn Winn broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning with a two-out RBI single and Everson Pereira added a solo home run in the eighth for host St. Louis, which topped Philadelphia.
Cardinals reliever Ryne Stanek pitched out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the eighth inning, and Riley O’Brien pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 30th save. St. Louis starter Andre Pallante threw six shutout frames before George Soriano (6-3) got the win.
Phillies starter Cristopher Sanchez matched Pallante with six shutout innings. Alex McFarlane (0-1), recalled from the minors pregame, allowed one run in his lone inning.
Cubs 8, Nationals 6
Alex Bregman and Seiya Suzuki each had two hits including a solo home run and Chicago held on to win at Washington.
Pete Crow-Armstrong also homered for the Cubs, who have won seven of eight. Bregman drew a walk and scored three runs.
CJ Abrams, Jacob Young and Dylan Crews homered for the Nationals, who had won three straight. Brady House amassed three hits and a walk and scored twice.
Dodgers 5, Royals 4 (10 innings)
Max Muncy hit a game-ending single in the 10th inning, Blake Snell gave up one run over six innings with 10 strikeouts in his return from an elbow injury, and Los Angeles pulled off a victory over visiting Kansas City.
Mookie Betts hit a home run and added a game-tying RBI single in the eighth inning as the Dodgers won consecutive games for the first time since July 29-30. Los Angeles’ Alex Call and Teoscar Hernandez each had an RBI double.
Salvador Perez had two RBIs for the Royals, and Jac Caglianone had an RBI single and a run in the eighth inning as Kansas City took a late one-run lead. Michael Wacha allowed three runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Orioles 5, Twins 2
Gunnar Henderson, Pete Alonso and Christian Encarnacion-Strand each had three hits, including a homer, as Baltimore defeated Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Brandon Young (9-3) held the Twins to two runs (one earned) on six hits in six innings. Andrew Kittredge pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his sixth save.
Brooks Lee went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Twins. Bailey Ober (7-4) allowed five runs on eight hits in six innings.
Padres 11, Brewers 2
Luis Rengifo launched the first grand slam of his career and Fernando Tatis Jr. moved into second place on San Diego’s career home run list as the Padres pounded visiting Milwaukee.
Luis Campusano also cracked a homer for the Padres, who banged out 17 hits en route to their fourth straight win. Walker Buehler (7-5) sailed through six innings, permitting only three hits and a run.
Kyle Harrison (9-3) struggled across 4 2/3 innings for Milwaukee, yielding a season-high 10 hits and eight runs. The Brewers resorted to using backup catcher Gary Sanchez to pitch the eighth, and he worked around two singles to put up a zero.
Angels 3, Rangers 2
Zach Neto went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run and Los Angeles held on to snap a three-game losing streak by beating Texas in Anaheim, Calif.
Vaughn Grissom delivered an RBI double to cap the Angels’ three-run third inning. Los Angeles’ Jose Fermin (4-2) struck out three during 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief.
Joc Pederson homered and walked three times, Jarred Kelenic drove in a run with a pinch-hit single and Brandon Nimmo had two hits and a run for the Rangers. Cody Bradford (0-1) gave up three runs on five hits over seven innings.
