July 28 (Reuters) – A U.S. citizen who became infected with the Ebola virus in Democratic Republic of Congo was discharged from Frankfurt University Hospital on Tuesday after making a full recovery, the hospital said in a statement.
• The patient had been admitted to the hospital’s special isolation unit on July 13 after contracting the Bundibugyo variant of the Ebola virus in Congo
• “The person was brought to the special isolation unit with severe Ebola disease. Their condition improved steadily. They currently show no symptoms and are in good condition,” said Timo Wolf, head of the special isolation unit
• Frankfurt is one of seven German centres equipped with specialized isolation facilities for infectious diseases
• The unit has previously successfully treated an Ebola patient and two patients infected with Lassa virus
