A FedEx driver was honored for his actions when he assisted a trooper who was being actively attacked by a male suspect on a rural Ripley County roadway.
The incident last November began when a suspect intentionally rammed a vehicle and then struck a pedestrian as he left the scene.
When an Indiana State Trooper located the suspect, he was attacked.
The suspect stuck his fingers in the officer’s eyes and attempted to gain control of his handgun.
Stanton Loder was making deliveries in the area and observed the life-or-death struggle.
Without hesitation, Loder ran 100 yards to the scene and immediately placed the suspect in a hold that allowed the trooper to get to his feet and handcuff the suspect.
The officer sustained a severe shoulder injury.
