The Evansville Fire Department has recently responded to several fires resulting in the loss of family pets.
Because of this, they have a list of ways to keep your pets safe.
Keep them away from open flames, space heaters, and stovetops, extinguish candles before leaving a room, and avoid using extension cords, especially if they have been chewed on.
Be prepared by keeping leashes and carriers near exits.
Never go back inside for a pet once you’re out.
Tell firefighters immediately.
Officials say they will always do everything they can safely do to rescue pets, but prevention and preparation can make a difference.
