Bishop Joseph Siegel of the Diocese of Evansville said the moments between the white smoke coming from the Sistine Chapel and the emergence of Pope Leo were filled with anticipation.
He expressed surprise that the College of Cardinals elected an American as head of the Catholic Church for the first time in history.
The bishop says he’s excited to see where Pope Leo will lead the church.
