A woman told Evansville police she was scammed out of thousands of dollars by a person claiming to be a U.S. marshal.
The scammer reportedly told her she had missed court and had to pay a bond or be thrown in jail.
The caller had a caller ID of “US Courts.”
The victim was told to bring the money to the Civic Center in Evansville, where she received a handwritten receipt in exchange.
The scammer called again and said she needed to pay a fee through a Bitcoin transaction.
The total of the scam was about $31,000.
