Indiana State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting at the Tell City police station. It started when police tried to pull over a 1998 GMC pickup for speeding on SR 66 in Cannelton just before 1AM. Police say the driver turned into the Tell City Walmart, refused to stop and drove back into Cannelton. Troopers say he turned down St. Louis Ave then tried to turn around when he fired multiple rounds, hitting the Cannelton police car. The suspect then got out of his car and ran before stealing a GMC pickup truck and leading officers back into Tell City. The suspect then drove into the Tell City Police Department parking lot, ramming several parked police cars. the suspect then fled into his 2nd floor Main street apartment nearby where he fired at officers. Officers returned fire, killing the suspect. All the Tell City officers are OK. A drone was used to confirm the suspect was no longer a threat. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Payton A. Masterson of Tell City, is deceased.
