The scent of natural gas can be smelled throughout the city of Evansville today, mainly the west side.
The cause is coming from a business on North St Joe Avenue that services liquefied petroleum tanks.
Vanderburgh County EMA Deputy Director Nick Adams says, from what they understand a tank came in to be serviced and it’s leaking.
Adams says, what you are smelling is Mercaptan.
It’s a chemical used to odorize natural gas, since natural gas doesn’t have an odor.
He says it’s harmless.
German Township along with CenterPoint is investigating.
