Story by Jay Zimmer
It began about 2am Tuesday as a chase with Spencer County deputies and ended 13 hours later with a man dead in the Natcher bridge.
That man was the subject of the chase which terminated on the bridge at about 3 am.
That’s when the man got out of his car and threatened suicide by placing a gun to his head.
Kentucky State Troopers with assistance from Indiana State Police carried on negotiations from inside an armored vehicle called a “Bearcat” while staying in close proximity to the man.
The standoff continued hour after hour until about 3:30pm when the man carried out his threat.
The bridge finally re-opened just before 6pm — nearly 16 hours after the incident began
