Evansville police were dispatched to the 2900 block of Ree Street a little after 8 o’clock last night.
According to a tweet from the department, an armed man was shot by an officer during a confrontation.
Officer Phil Smith says the the situation began as a woman reported 35 year old Donald Cleo Woolsey threatening her with a knife.
He also reportedly had a can of gasoline and was threatening to set his mother’s house on fire.
The man was still threatening people with a blade when officers arrived, and he advanced on police.
He was told to drop the knife but didn’t listen.
At one point an officer fired six or seven shots.
Woolsey was hit in the arm and abdomen.
Smith says officers applied a tourniquet to the man’s wound — and he was conscious and breathing when taken to hospital.
He is expected to survive.
