Azzip Pizza Coach Spotlight

“A good coach can change a game. A great coach can change a life.” – John Wooden
Azzip Pizza believes that great coaches are the heart of every team, inspiring athletes and creating lasting memories. That’s why we’re proud to shine a spotlight on the incredible coaches who make a difference in our community.
Every two weeks, a local coach from the Tri-state who goes above and beyond will be highlighted — whether they’re leading a youth club team or coaching at the high school level. These coaches are recognized for their hard work, dedication, and passion for the sport.
One lucky coach will be selected as the winner of the “Azzip Pizza Coach Spotlight,” announced live by Clay Roth during the Hot 96 Morning Show! The winner will receive a special prize package, including gift cards from Azzip Pizza and Play It Again Sports as a thank-you for their commitment to shaping the future of sports in our area.
Nominate a coach today and help us celebrate the unsung heroes who inspire greatness, one play at a time!

Alexis Griswold - Castle South Middle School & Chandler Elementary
Surprisingly, my journey coaching began when I was a 6th grader coaching a K-1 basketball team. I continued to play many sports throughout high school and had some great coaches along the way. In 2021, I got a call from my favorite volleyball coach asking me if I was interested in coaching volleyball at Castle South Middle School. Coaching was just the thing I needed at that point in my life. Being able to pour into young athletes gave me a great sense of purpose. As I continued to coach volleyball, my love for coaching grew, and so did the need for more coaches!
I decided to make coaching an (almost) year-round gig by taking on basketball and academic coaching.
Now, I coach 7th grade volleyball at Castle South, 6th grade girls basketball at Castle South, and am an academic coach at Chandler Elementary for our Spelling and M.A.T.H. Bowl teams. Coaching definitely keeps me busy, but it brings me so much joy and allows me to reach even more students than the ones I see daily in my classroom.
As an athlete myself, I was blessed with many great coaches. However, the ones that stood out to me most were the ones that believed in me and gave me a chance. I took that experience and shaped it into one of my coaching philosophies. Always believe in the players that believe in themselves and motivate the ones that don’t.
My favorite AZZIP pizza is The Triple Double with Grippo’s and March Crabness when it is in season.
