On Tuesday Detectives assisted Warrick County Animal Control Officers with a search warrant for a home on Maelyn Court in Newburgh.
Officials removed approximately 20 dogs, 2 birds, 2 turtles, 3 sugar gliders, 1 cat, 2 bearded dragons, 1 gecko, and a tank of beta fish.
A turtle was found dead along with guinea pigs and fish.
The smell inside the home was strong enough to cause a burning sensation to officers’ eyes, noses, and throats.
Shayna Burko and her mother Kimberly Burko were both arrested and charged with neglect of a vertebrate animal with a prior conviction.
