The WIKY “Ton of Toys” campaign to benefit St. Vincent de Paul of Evansville set a record for families served this year, all because of the generosity of WIKY listener donations. The 2024 toy drive provided Christmas gifts for 248 families, and a total of 637 children.
A total of $11,910 was raised, and families were each able to select the following for their children:
Any combination of two (2) age-appropriate toys, crafts, or sporting equipment items; at least two (2) stocking stuffers, one (1) book, one (1) family game, one (1) puzzle, one (1) stuffed animal and one (1) clothing item or blanket.
According to Joe Cook, the Executive Director of St. Vincent de Paul of Evansville;
“Many of the parents shared with the volunteers their current financial struggles;
how Christmas can be very stressful for parents trying to provide some holiday joy
for their children when they are simply trying to get to the next paycheck. One
parent thanked us, saying it was “miraculous” that we were able to help her give
her own gifts to her children this year.”
