Evansville police are issuing cautions to gun owners after an audit of gun theft reports.
The audit showed that 111 of last year’s 212 gun thefts, or about half, were stolen from vehicles.
There have been 117 gun thefts this year with nearly 60 percent of them being stolen from unlocked cars.
Detectives urge gun owners to keep their cars locked and guns safely and securely stored.
