An Evansville man faces arson and animal cruelty charges after investigators accuse him of starting a fire in his own home.
The fire was discovered in the basement of a home in the 500 block of South Kerth Avenue, Thursday morning.
Police claim Adam English started the fire in his laundry room and left the stove on.
Firefighters found a cat inside the house.
They gave it first aid and turned it over to animal control.
English has a history of mental health issues and arson incidents.
