A person claiming to be a sergeant with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has scammed a woman out of thousands of dollars.
According to a police report, the man told her she had an open federal case and needed to post a bond or she would be arrested.
She was told not to go onto any sheriff’s office property or she would be detained immediately and held without bond.
She was instructed to go pull out money and put it into Bitcoin.
After sending the man $19,000 the woman claimed the man hung up on her and wouldn’t answer her calls.
The victim reported the transactions to EPD so they could investigate.
