The longest-serving senate leader in history will give up that position in November.
Mitch McConnell turned 82 last week and made his announcement today on the floor of the Senate.
He said he plans to serve out his current senatorial term which ends in January of 2027.
He gave no specific reason for his decision beyond saying he’s been contemplating it for months.
