Road closures begin today in Wesselman Park, outside of the Nature Preserve to ensure a safe crossing for salamanders.
This time of year the lizard-like amphibian emerges from hibernation and travels towards the wetlands for mating.
During the first warm rains, the salamanders must cross at least one road to reach the vernal pool in the middle of Wesselman Park.
Gate closures will take place from dusk to dawn Monday through Friday.
Saturday and Sunday the gates will be closed from 4 pm to 9 am.
This will continue until April 1.
