Billy Bolen is leaving not only the office of Evansville Chief of Police but the department as well.
Bolin served as chief for more than 12 years.
He ceded the gold chief’s badge to his successor, Phillip Smith, on Monday.
Smith had been assistant chief.
Bolin says he will use up his accrued time off and retire from the Evansville Police Department at the end of March.
