Evansville firefighters were dispatched to a duplex fire in the 2500 block of Adams Avenue around 8:20 last night.
9-1-1 was called in by the next-door neighbor after smelling smoke.
When crews entered the kitchen, the fire moved quickly.
Crews had the fire tapped out in less than 20 minutes.
The kitchen suffered heavy fire damage.
The family dog was rescued and treated on scene and the occupants were displaced.
The fire has been determined accidental due to cooking.
