A group known as the South American Theft Group targeted a Meijer customer.
The 87-year-old female victim had her wallet stolen and her card was used to buy over $4,000 worth of gift cards at Sam’s Club, and Walmart.
The international crime syndicate known to the FBI travels to Evansville for a day and steals cards from parked cars or elderly women.
They then buy gift cards before quickly leaving town.
One suspect, William Romero Guete was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail over the weekend.
