A long-time landmark in the Evansville inner city is being torn down.
The smokestack at Select Specialty Hospital on Cherry Street is being removed.
It’s been a fixture in the downtown area since the 1950s but has been rendered obsolete.
A demolition team began the disassembly on Monday and is removing the bricks by hand.
The work is closing Cherry Street from 4th Street to the Riverwalk building.
The work should wrap up by Friday.
