The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department received information about a violent felon in possession of a firearm yesterday.
The suspect lived in the area of No. 6 School Road and N. St. Joseph Road.
When deputies arrived around noon to serve a warrant, they were met with gunfire and a hours long standoff began.
During the standoff, a police vehicle called a BearCat was deployed.
It’s used in dangerous situations to protect officers from gunfire.
The gunman was shot and killed after another attempt to shoot at deputies.
No one else was hurt.
