Officials with the United States Department of Agriculture were in Spurgeon, Indiana this morning.
They chose Earth Day to break ground to emphasize a new climate smart infrastructure.
The state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant will connect 100 customers to a centralized sewer collection system.
$4.4 million in funding from the USDA will help the town with the project.
USDA State Director Dr. Terry Goodin, Indiana Lieutenant Suzanne Crouch and U.S. Representative Larry Bucshon were in attendance.
The event was held at Jordan Memorial Park.
