The Evansville Fire Department answered a call from a neighbor that a house at 420 S. Evans was ablaze.
Crews arrived three minutes later to find the home fully involved.
Firefighters worked to put out the house of origin and also to protect the adjacent home, neither of which was occupied.
It took about an hour and 20 minutes to knock down the blaze, but firefighters stayed another two and a half hours wetting down hot spots, and working on frozen hoses.
The original fire home was heavily damaged including a collapsed roof.
The adjacent home sustained minor damage. One firefighter was slightly injured.
