Dolly Parton says “thanks but no thanks” to plans to erect a statue in her honor.
A bill before the Tennessee Legislature would approve a statue of the entertainer on the grounds of the state capitol in Nashville.
Parton issued a statement saying she is “honored and humbled” but “Given all that is going on in the world, I don’t think putting me on a pedestal is appropriate at this time.”
She did leave open the possibility that a statue might be put up in the future, — in her words — “perhaps after I’m gone, if you feel I still deserve it.”
