Story by Rick Allen.
Henderson County officials are encouraging more property owners to support volunteer emergency responders.
The Dues On Tax Bills Program allows the county to assign an average of $55 to every property’s tax bill. The money then goes to the county’s volunteer fire departments. The program is not mandatory, but County Judge-Executive Brad Schneider says he hopes people will realize the importance of supporting the volunteer departments.
Property owners have until the end of May to opt out of the program.
