Police are investigating what officials at Starbucks are describing as “someone armed in the store.”
The Evansville Police Department says Christopher Lee Williams brought a gun into the Green River Road Starbucks around 5:45 a.m Saturday.
An employee told police that Williams showed her a handgun at his waist, and ordered her to head to the bathroom, but she refused. Shortly afterward, officers say Williams told the employee that the gun was a toy and walked out of the coffee shop.
Officers later found Williams in the Longhorn Steakhouse parking lot. The man reportedly resisted officers and was tased.
A media spokesperson for Starbucks sent a statement to our media partner 14 NEWS:
“It does sound like there was someone armed in the store though no robbery occurred and police were called and took swift action.
We are grateful to report no customers or partners (employees) were injured, and we are grateful to local authorities for their swift action.”
We will defer to the local PD for any specifics on the situation otherwise. Thank you for reaching out.”
