A mistrial has been declared in the Jacob Bengert murder trial.
Jurors deliberated over seven hours yesterday (Tues) before telling the court that they were unable to reach a verdict.
Bengert is accused of killing his young son, who died from blunt force trauma.
His lawyers told jurors that Bengert did not deliberately cause the baby’s death, but that he had used drugs, including meth and heroin, in the preceding days.
Prosecutor Nick Hermann says a new trial is expected to begin in October.
Bengert remains in the Vanderburgh County Jail.
