The old North Main Building that most recently housed an IGA food store is coming down.
Demolition began this week to make way for a 180-unit apartment complex which will also have a commercial space.
It will be called The Lofts on North Main.
It’s a workforce housing project, meaning it targets those earning at least 60 percent of the area median income.
The commercial space does not yet include a grocery, but developers are still hoping for one.
Since the IGA closed, residents of Jacobsville neighborhood have not had a local outlet for fresh meat and produce.
