July 28 (Reuters) – CBS News’ “60 Minutes” is adding several new faces to its team, including New York Times Opinion columnist Ross Douthat and author Sebastian Junger, according to a memo on Tuesday, as the TV news magazine reshapes its lineup after a major shake up.
These are the first major hires for 60 Minutes’ executive producer, Nick Bilton, after he replaced Tanya Simon, the program’s first female executive producer, earlier this year.
Here are some details:
• Douthat will join CBS News as a 60 Minutes correspondent, according to the memo.
• Norah O’Donnell, a prominent figure across the CBS network, will be a correspondent at the magazine.
• Besides Junger, the program is adding Gianna Toboni and Trevor Phillips as contributors.
• Junger is widely known for his bestselling book “The Perfect Storm” and his career spans acclaimed work as a documentarian and war correspondent. He also co-directed the Oscar-nominated documentary film “Restrepo”.
• Toboni has a decade of experience as a senior correspondent with Vice News and Vice on HBO, and most recently reported for CNN.
• Phillips, who was previously announced as CBS News’ senior global affairs correspondent, will operate from CBS’ London bureau, the memo said.
