Thursday morning, the Evansville Fire Department responded to reports of smoke filling an apartment complex on the city’s east side.
Upon arrival, firefighters located a stove fire that caused minimal damage to the affected apartment.
One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
A tenant attempted to extinguish the fire and was able to knock down most of the visible fire before becoming overwhelmed by smoke.
Working smoke detectors played a critical role in the incident, allowing residents to evacuate the building quickly and safely.
The fire has been ruled accidental.
