Owensboro is in the beginning stages of bringing back professional baseball.
The Owensboro Baseball Committee is exploring a Frontier League franchise, the same league the Evansville Otters play in, and a mixed-use facility that could host events beyond baseball.
The Frontier League has expressed interest in expansion.
Last year, two teams were added, bringing the total to 18.
The committee plans to approach city and county officials about a study plan.
The City once had a team known as the Owensboro Oilers.
They were a Class-D minor league team in the Kitty League and served as an affiliate of the New York Yankees.
The team disbanded in 1955.
