The Evansville Fire Department is fully prepared to launch its own ambulance service starting on July 1.
A consultant hired by AMR, the current ambulance service, says the city’s plan poses multiple risks, lower than expected revenue as one concern.
Chief Tony Knight says he reached out to several billing companies, and every one was revenue-positive.
Knight says the switch from AMR is necessary because of systemic issues, including too many mutual aid responses, long response times, and a lack of enough ambulances to meet demand — issues he says have been communicated to AMR multiple times over the last seven years with no visible improvement.
