1.) The first episode premiered more than 25 years ago. The first episode aired September 22nd, 1994.
2.) Robin Williams and Billy Crystal guest starred together in season three. They played two guys in the coffee shop. Billy’s character confessed he’d been sleeping with Robin’s wife, and they both stormed out. (Here’s the scene.)
3.) The original title for the show was “Insomnia Caf“. They also almost went with the names “Friends Like Us”, “Across the Hall” and “Six of One.”
4.) The role of Ross Geller was written for David Schwimmer. He was actually the first person cast on the show, and the writers were already developing Ross’s character in his voice.
5.) The opening credits were not shot in New York. The fountain looks a lot like Central Park’s Pulitzer Fountain, the actual shoot occurred on a Warner Bros. lot.
