A Tell City couple is in jail following the death of their toddler.
They told authorities the last time they had seen the child alive was around 11 PM, over 14 hours before the 911 call.
The child appeared to be malnourished and had over 40 sores or bug bites on him.
The mother told police the child had been eating his diapers.
Officers suspected it was due to hunger.
During the autopsy, material consistent with drywall, paint chips, or spackling from the home, along with diaper material, was removed from the child’s system.
Trevor Hayes and Katherine Carter’s charges include murder and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
