The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of ongoing fraud schemes.
These include a phone call, text, or email claiming to be law enforcement, a family member, or a bank.
Messages from scammers tell victims to withdraw cash or pay by credit card immediately and threaten arrest or account closure.
Officials say once the money is sent, it is nearly impossible to recover.
Law enforcement will never demand payment over the phone.
As part of the “Don’t Be Fooled By Fraud” campaign, the Sheriff’s office is placing warning signs near Bitcoin and Crypto ATMs, as they are a common place where scams take place.
