It will now cost more to own a pet in the City of Evansville.
Not only is it a requirement by law for all pets to be licensed, but now they must have a microchip.
The amendment was passed at the city council last night.
Animal Control Director Missy Mosby says the new ordinance will help them keep the strays out of their kennels, opening up space for animals that need to be there.
Animal Control will Charge $25 to microchip dogs, cats, and ferrets.
The license for a spayed, neutered, and vaccinated pet is a one-time fee of $10.
Birds, reptiles, fish, hamsters, and guinea pigs are off the hook and will not be required to have a chip.
