Grave sites containing the remains of around 20 pioneer and Civil War veterans are being given a new home.
The relocation is part of Mater Dei High School’s Growing in Grace expansion.
The 200-year-old site known as Babytown and Newman Cemetery sits on the edge of the campus where the new parking will go.
Officials say that at this time, no intact remains have been found, only casket hardware and ornamental pieces.
Those items will be held in a secure vault until reburial.
When the project is complete, a ceremony will be held at St. Joe’s Cemetery to reverently respect the reinternment.
