Armadillo sightings are becoming more and more common in southern Indiana.
The Department of Natural Resources says the nocturnal creatures made their way into Illinois in the 1990s and then to Indiana in the early 2000s.
DNR mammologists attribute their migration to warmer climates.
The animals have been sighted in Evansville.
The population is expected to grow because the only predators armadillos have are humans.
Armadillos are protected by Indiana law, meaning they can’t be captured or killed.
