After a 17-year relationship, the Newburgh City Council voted to end its fire protection contract with Ohio Township.
The contract has provided service for a 10-square-mile area of Ohio Township since 2008.
Calls initially began as 50 to 80 per year in the area, but reached 648 calls last year.
Officials say the amount paid through the contract remained unchanged despite the call increase.
The decision will not affect fire, EMS, or other emergency services in Newburgh.
Mutual aid agreements remain in effect.
