The CDC has confirmed Illinois’ first human case of West Nile Virus of 2025.
The virus was found in an individual from Wayne County after they were hospitalized due to complications of the infection.
The patient has since been discharged home.
West Nile is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito that has picked up the virus by feeding on an infected bird.
Common symptoms include fever, nausea, headache, and muscle aches.
Symptoms may last from a few days to a few weeks.
