An Evansville father is facing neglect charges after his 3-year-old died from a gunshot wound.
The incident occurred in the 1300 block of Florence Street around 8:20 on Saturday night.
The child’s mother told police that 30-year-old Jovontae Carter has been known to keep a gun under the cushions of the couch.
That’s where they believe the child got the gun.
The gun went off when she attempted to grab it from his hands.
Carter told officers that he threw the weapon in Pigeon Creek because he didn’t want to see it again.
He has also been charged with unlawful carrying of a handgun by a felon.
