The Evansville Fire Department is taking over ambulance services.
The department claims the costs for patients will be about 25% lower as a result.
Start-up costs are estimated to be about $7 million, but are expected to be paid back after two years.
They hope to have the transition complete on July 1 of next year.
The change applies to services within the city of Evansville.
Vanderburgh County service will remain the same.
