Indiana State Police has identified the killer in a 53-year-old cold case.
DNA found on the clothing of Phyllis Bailer is from Fred Allen Lienemann.
He would have been 25 at the time of the murder.
In July of 1972, 26-year-old Phyllis Bailer was traveling from Indianapolis to Bluffton with her 3-year-old daughter.
Her body was found the next day in a ditch in Allen County.
Her daughter was found unharmed.
During the investigation, detectives learned that Lienemann was murdered in Detroit in 1985.
He had no known connections to the victim.
