The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has initiated a multi-million-dollar project in Warrick County to prevent another mine collapse.
The plan is to stabilize old mine voids through a process known as “core filling”.
Crews have also begun exploratory drilling in the impacted neighborhood.
These investigations will guide the core filling process, which is expected to start this summer and continue for 9 months.
The Chandler mine collapse happened on March 1, damaging several homes in the Monroe Avenue area.
