The United States Postal Service is asking its customers to help prevent carriers from dog bites.
Postal Service officials in Indiana report that since October 1 of 2024, 67 letter carriers have experienced dog bites or attacks.
To ensure the safety of mail carriers, dog owners must securely lock their dog in another room until a delivery exchange is done.
If outside, dogs must be leashed at a sufficient distance from the mailbox.
As a last resort to resolve ongoing issues, mail service could be interrupted, not only for the dog owner, but for the entire neighborhood.
