SYDNEY (Reuters) – Australia’s central bank needs to see more positive news on inflation before cutting interest rates again, a top central bank official said on Thursday.
Speaking before lawmakers, Reserve Bank of Australia Deputy Governor Andrew Hauser said policymakers expect to receive more good news on inflation, but they need to see it first before further removing the restrictiveness of policy.
The central bank cut interest rates this month for the first time in more than four years, but cautioned further easing was not guaranteed given the surprising strength in the labour market.
