Jasper Elementary fourth graders head to Indianapolis today to show their support for a bill before the Indiana General Assembly.
State Representative Shane Lindaur has written a bill naming the persimmon as the Indiana state fruit.
That bill comes from discussions among the fourth graders’ social studies class.
They say the persimmon is native to Indiana, and its wood can be used to increase the state economy.
The bill is to be read for a committee today.
